Candidate for Mundelein Mayor
I moved to Mundelein in 1989 after college. I met my husband while attending High School at Carmel High School. We have lived, worked, shopped, volunteered and played in Mundelein ever since! We met again at Emils Sports Bar, our first lunch date was at Jake Moran’s, we were engaged at St. Mary’s Lake Seminary on Christmas Day and were married at Santa Maria del Popolo Church- all in Mundelein!
We have 2 daughters, Akaysha and Maggie. Both went to Santa Maria del Popolo School, and Akaysha went to Carmel Catholic and Maggie to Mundelein High School. We are lucky to have two amazing schools in our town! I graduated from the University of Miami, Florida majoring in Politics and Public Affairs and Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. I also have my Master’s in Education from National Louis University.
One of my favorite jobs was working at Santa Maria del Popolo as the Development Director. I was responsible for all the fundraising for the church and school. I had an amazing team of volunteers that I worked with every day. Together, we did some great things. The Parish Center was a complete team effort. We raised over 3 million dollars to build a gymnasium for the parish. Working with the Village of Mundelein and the Archdiocese of Chicago and the numerous volunteers, we worked to get it built.
Volunteering with Mundelein Mainstreet, Mundelein-Vernon Hills Rotary Club, Carmel High School, being a foster parent, a CASA worker for children in foster care, and a substitute teacher are some of the many ways I have given back to the community that I love. In 2013 I made the decision to run for trustee. I was grateful to again win re-election in 2017.
We have done some really great things here in Mundelein, but there is so much more that needs to be done. We need the right leadership to fulfill that role here in Mundelein which is why I made the decision to step up and run for Mayor.
